In the year 2024, Eswatini Sugar sowed E1,050,000 towards housing 14 disadvantaged families, in a Housing Project that saw the construction of 14 one and two-room houses in all 4 regions of the country.
Implemented through Baphalali Eswatini Red Cross Society (BERCS), the assistance was extended to vulnerable households with dire housing needs.
Eswatini Sugar also provided double beds, blankets, curtains and 25kg bags of sugar for each household.
According to Eswatini Sugar CEO, Banele Nyamane, such interventions are at the heart of the orgsanisation which not only concerns itself about profits but also about the well-being of Emaswati. The Housing Project, specifically, was deemed a timely intervention with the prevalent storms in the country and overall erratic climatic conditions.
“Eswatini Sugar intentionally concerns itself with the upliftment and development of communities not just within the sugar belt, but also beyond. This feat is achieved by partnering with organisations such as Baphalali Eswatini Red Cross Society amongst others, who because of their physical presence and proximity have a stronger pulse of where the needs exist most prevalently in the communities around the country. We hope that this gesture will not only ensure protection from the elements but also help restore some dignity to the families,” said Nyamane.
