Long-standing belief that investing in tertiary education is the gateway to unlocking socio-economic freedom for generations to come, is the motivation behind Eswatini Sugar’s continued investment in the University of Eswatini (UNESWA).
In the past 5 years, Eswatini Sugar has contributed over E3,6 million towards the following:
i. Grant Awards under the Institute for Research in Traditional Medicine, Medicinal and Indigenous Food Plants (EIRMIP) Master’s Programme;
ii. Setting up of Eswatini’s first sugar testing laboratory at Kwaluseni Campus; and
iii. Setting up an endowment fund that will enable the acquisition of an Automatic Weather Station and a real time PCR (polymerase chain reaction) machine, to be set up at Luyengo Campus. The endowment will also cover 7-year maintenance costs of these two pieces of equipment.
“Our commitment to the advancement of tertiary education is intentional. It is one committed to infrastructure and programmes that will ensure continuous and sustainable advancement for present and future tertiary scholars. As a spin-off, these same initiatives stand to benefit the sugar industry directly through the industry-related research projects conducted and the overall quality of future human capital produced,” – Eswatini Sugar CEO, Banele Nyamane.
